10g to 90gLures for Australian Bass
Lake bass school deep, often below seven metres. Small, fast-sinking metal gets straight down to them.
The short answer
15g · 25g · 35g
For Australian bass schooling deep in lakes, jig a 25g or 35g Lazer on medium plug gear, with green the favourite colour. Find the school on the sounder, let the Lazer drop under control and use moderate lifts of about 80 to 90cm. For casting, trolling and jigging in rivers and dams, the Tail Spinner is made for bass, cod, golden perch, trout and redfin.
Jigging deep schools
- 1Find a school on the sounder, usually suspended 6 to 9 metres down over 10 metres or more.
- 2Drop the Lazer, thumbing the spool so the line stays tight. Bass often hit on the drop.
- 3Lift the rod about 80 to 90cm, then lower it no faster than the lure sinks.
- 4Try pausing on the way down. It often triggers strikes.
